The position is primarily based in the Menlo Park/Palo Alto, California area.
This senior-level role involves working with government and private clients to provide technical oversight of construction activities, ensuring compliance with contract documents, design plans, safety standards, and environmental regulations. The position is primarily based in the Menlo Park/Palo Alto, California area.
Key Responsibilities:
- Independently manage a team overseeing large-scale public infrastructure projects. Review and provide technical oversight of engineering submittals, construction drawings, and specifications for compliance with standards and applicable codes. Assist in the development and maintenance of engineering procedures, construction, and project documentation. Provide technical input during constructability reviews.
- Support the resolution of construction issues, including field engineering changes, RFIs, and non-conformance reports. Coordinate across disciplines (civil, structural, geotechnical, systems, and environmental) to ensure integration of design and construction activities. Support risk identification and mitigation activities related to engineering and construction.
- Monitor construction progress and support the Engineering Manager in ensuring quality, cost, and schedule adherence. Be proactive in solving any field issue to alleviate contractor impacts.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California.
- Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible engineering experience on major transportation or public infrastructure projects, with emphasis on design review and construction support.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited school.
- Demonstrated knowledge of engineering standards, construction methods, and project delivery for large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Proven ability to manage teams, coordinate with multiple stakeholders, and ensure timely compliance across complex projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to draft clear, concise compliance documents and engage with regulatory agencies effectively.
- A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to address compliance challenges and resolve issues promptly.
Knowledge and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: Construction materials and methods, building trades, safety codes, concrete and steel construction, soil compaction, and MEP systems.
- Ability to: Detect poor quality materials/workmanship, read and interpret plans, perform field tests, calculate material quantities, and prepare comprehensive reports.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working on federally and state-funded transportation and infrastructure projects
- Experience on creek restoration projects in California with RWQCB, Corps, and CDFW permits highly desirable
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable
