Reporting to the Clinical Director, the Behavior Support Specialist/Mentor supports children, foster parents and caregivers in supporting the behavioral health needs of children in their care using evidenced based interventions. This position will collaborate with Program Directors and Care Team to understand the needs of children served.

Key Expectations/Responsibilities:

  • Provide trauma informed services to all children and families and demonstrate effective application of the Trust Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) through connection, empowering, and correction
  • Provide support services in accordance with the child's Individualized Treatment Plan.
  • Document the provision of all services in Cumberland's electronic case record and in accordance with CYFS and standards
  • Travel to foster homes to support caregivers with behavioral support needs.
  • Document services provided in the child's electronic case record. All documentation should be true and accurate
  • Participate in ongoing training and supervision
  • Provide crisis intervention and support services to families
  • Maintain a manageable caseload not to exceed 1:15 to ensure outcomes and practice requirements are met while taking into consideration the level of care of clients served
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, CYFS policy and standards
  • Work one-on-one with clients to implement behavior support plans and track progress
  • Develop and modify behavior support plans to meet the unique needs of each child
  • Collaborate with CRP, FCAP and Counseling team members to ensure consistent implementation of behavior support plans
  • Implement de-escalation techniques and crisis management to maintain client and staff safety
  • Foster a positive and inclusive environment that encourages social and behavioral growth
  • Addresses the needs of children and foster families by collaborating with staff to design a holistic approach to address barriers or problems with the current process
  • Reviewing Behavior and Incident reports to evaluate needs of child
  • Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations and abides by said laws and regulations with emphasis on child welfare, mental health, confidentiality, and client and family's rights
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required in social work, psychology, mental health or another related human services field and at least one (1) year of previous experience working with youth in a mental health setting is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across the organization

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 25 pounds occasionally, up to 40 pounds infrequently
  • Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 25% of the day; sitting 75% of the day.
  • The employee is regularly required to speak or hear, may bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary
  • Position includes exposure to parents, guardians, and conservators as well as to youth with behavioral problems, including possible verbal or physical aggression
  • The Behavior Support Specialist/Mentor position can be physically demanding. May lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently, up to 50 pounds occasionally
