We are currently recruiting an experienced Design Manager to lead our design teams across multiple projects.
Candidates should demonstrate extensive experience in the management of construction projects, including design, backed by an impressive portfolio and having a 3rd level qualification in a building, construction, or architectural related subject. Excellent working knowledge of both 2D and 3D design and a track record of effective team management. This role will involve travel to site as project needs dictate.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage teams of Design Co-ordinators, Technicians and other design professionals, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment and providing guidance and mentorship to reporting team members.
Collaborate with Mivan operational teams and external stakeholders to understand project timelines, budgets and objectives and ensure the effective coordination of the design process from conception to completion across multiple projects in line with agreed KPIs.
Ensure designs are buildable, repeatable, and efficient. Drive early engagement between Design and Manufacturing teams to ensure Manufacturing feedback is embedded into design reviews enhancing flow of information and output through Design and Manufacturing.
Review and evaluate all design information provided by the Client’s designers and architects and program design work accordingly. Collaborate with the production and project delivery teams to produce a realistic design programme for each contract and manage design deliverables to meet agreed programme.
Work closely with the project management team to develop and manage the design budget for each project and ensure proposed design is within budget allowables. Monitor and report design costs v budget on all projects within remit and identify cost‑saving opportunities without compromising the quality of the design.
Work with the Head of Design to assess and adjust resource needs based on operational requirements.
Ensure consistency and quality across all design deliverables in compliance with project requirements, programme, budget and industry standards. Work closely with design teams to address design challenges and provide innovative solutions.
Ensure that design work meets quality standards, safety regulations, and project objectives. Ensure design documents and drawings are reviewed and approved appropriately and that potential issues are identified and addressed early in the process.
Ensure that all variations that occur during the design process are properly documented, approved and incorporated into the project as appropriate.
Take a proactive role in developing the Company’s 3D and digital capabilities through the use of Inventor, Revit, BIM and other technological advancements. Stay updated on industry trends, tools, design software and best practices to enhance the design process.
Provide the estimating team with support on tenders regarding programme, technical matters including buildability and also post‑tender and pre‑award support.
Provide regular project status reports to Head of Design and clients, including project milestones, budget status, and design progress.
Foster effective communication between the design, production, commercial and project teams, the client’s multidisciplinary team, external consultants, specialist sub‑contractors and suppliers. Develop a relationship with the Client’s team and update them on progress and problem resolution as required. Support design co‑ordinators in organising and chairing design meetings including client and subcontractor meetings, taking the lead when required.
