Business Analyst (Life Technology) The Business Analyst is an integral part of a feature team and a member of the wider Business Analysis community, reporting to a senior Business Analyst within the Life Technology department. The role normally works as the sole Business Analyst on an agile feature team.
The Business Analyst is generally responsible for understanding user and business needs and supporting feature teams to visualise and deliver desired business outcomes. The Business Analyst requires a good understanding of one or more of the Life Technology products and contributes to the positive change of those systems and processes from a backlog of features. They build key relationships with peers in business and technology.
They are an active player in the BA community across Technology, collaborating with other Business Analysts working on similar types of work.
Investigating, understanding and capturing requirements:
Work with the feature team to capture and present requirements in a way that can be understood, supporting build and implementation. This may involve internal teams or third‑party partners.
Contribute to team outcomes:
Collaborate with Business Analysts to produce the right outputs and step in when necessary.
Unblock problems and issues:
Identify and resolve issues, find solutions and facilitate implementation.
Prioritisation:
Where demand exceeds supply, help prioritise creatively to ensure timely delivery.
Active contributor in the Business Analysis community:
Participate in the wider Business Analysis team, support the Head of Business Analysis and drive continuous improvement.
Stakeholder management:
Build and influence relationships with peers and stakeholders for positive outcomes in Business Analysis.
Skills required for the role
Technology skills:
Strong understanding of technology, comfortable in a technology team, familiar with architecture terminology and industry software, adept at analysing data, and experienced with agile and waterfall methodologies.
Understanding of business processes:
Ability to analyse and document current processes clearly, identify opportunities for optimisation and transformation, and familiarity with financial services products and practices.
Research and critical thinking skills:
Ability to consider multiple outcomes, research viable options, and present findings appropriately to the intended audience.
People skills:
Interacting with many people at different levels, understanding their motivations, and influencing business analysis outcomes.
Communication skills:
Good listening, effective negotiation, and appropriate level of detail, frequency and delivery style for the audience.
Business Analysis skills:
Formal BA skills, investigation, analysis, visualisation, articulation and problem solving, ensuring solutions align with the vision of M&G and staying abreast of market trends and techniques.
Can‑do attitude:
Willingness to find solutions, overcome issues and roll up sleeves to get the job done.
