Job OverviewReporting to the Commercial Estimating and Design Manager, as the Wall Panel Designer you are responsible for creating the structural framework that supports the walls in buildings in accordance with architectural drawings. You use architectural drawings and building codes to optimize the design of wall panels for production.
Your Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities- Designing and working with wall panels in conjunction with floor and roof layouts.
- Understanding the concepts of load transfers from floor and roof design.
- Visualizing plans in 3D for modeling.
- Managing design work schedule to ensure jobs are completed on time.
- Creating computer models using computer‑aided design (CAD) software.
- Reviewing and interpreting customer‑supplied documents, such as blueprints or drawings, to identify if any areas require clarification.
- Completing fabrication‑ready designs for residential home structures.
- Implementing design changes and communicating with other related departments to ensure designs are accurate and consistent.
- Reviewing constructability of the projects and identifying opportunities for value engineering.
- Preparing fabrication packages for the production department and site packages for installers.
- Developing optimized customer standard models that are cost effective, shop efficient and framer friendly.
- Meeting with clients to discuss project details and design specifications.
- Providing support to other projects or duties as assigned.
- Promoting a safe work environment and ensuring compliance with Qualico’s Safety Program, policies and procedures.
- Post‑secondary education or technical training courses in Engineering, Architecture or Drafting.
- Related construction industry experience can be valuable.
- Minimum 1 year of drafting and design experience in the construction industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of building codes, construction methods, design principles, and building materials.
- Satisfactory verification of criminal record check.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint and Excel).
- Experienced with drafting or design software (AutoCAD, AutoDesk, Revit, etc.).
- Experience with Mitek Structure is preferred.
- Previous experience in the lumber and building materials industry is a strong asset.
- Creating trusting and successful working relationships.
- Cooperating with team members in an open, positive and respectful manner.

- Taking responsibility for the outcomes of decisions and actions.
- Continuously pursuing learning and growth.
Primarily works in an office setting during regular business hours. Travel to sites and overtime may occasionally be required.
