Software Engineer, Backend - Canada

As a Backend Engineer in the Institutional Foundations team, you will help create the core infrastructure that powers Coinbase's institutional business — enabling thousands of financial institutions to participate securely in the crypto economy. From custody and staking to governance and web3 access, you’ll work on foundational systems that drive high-scale, high-security performance.

• Break down our existing monolithic Rails application into a modular microservice architecture.
• Design and scale robust backend systems with long-term maintainability in mind.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product vision into a tangible roadmap.
• Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code to serve institutional customers.

• 2+ years of experience in backend software development.
• Experience designing, scaling, and maintaining production services in a service-oriented architecture.
• Strong proficiency in writing maintainable and tested code.
• Passion for crypto, decentralization, and open financial systems.

• Experience working in fast-growing companies or startups.
• Familiarity with blockchain platforms like Ethereum or Bitcoin.
• Background in microservices and decomposing monoliths.
• Tech stack familiarity: Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Sinatra, Postgres, MongoDB, Redshift.
• Experience with financial systems, crypto wallets, staking, or dApps.

• Pay Range: $154,000 CAD
