Job Description

Join to apply for the Supervisor, Pipe & Mechanical role at Seaspan ULC . The Supervisor, Pipe & Mechanical manages trades workers in the Pipe & Mechanical department, reports to the Manager of Pipe & Mechanical, and works with operations, project managers and chargehands to plan, oversee, execute, set priorities and determine staffing requirements within VDC Pipe & Mechanical.

What You’ll Do
  • Ensures work progression in safety, cost, quality and schedules.
  • Implements and enforces Seaspan Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality processes on the shop floor and strives to eliminate safety hazards.
  • Reports internally on work process and status.
  • Escalates technical trade issues with Management and implements solutions.
  • Interprets work order specifications and manufacturing information, keeps updated on standards and changes, and provisions materials when unavailable.
  • Assists in determining work plans, sequences and schedules and may support estimate preparation.
  • Delivers production in accordance with company and customer quality standards.
  • Partners with Management to ensure trade employees have the skills, equipment, training and certifications required.
  • Minimizes waste expense and unnecessary delays in construction or repair work.
  • Eliminates inefficient work practice and fully uses crew experience and skills to progress the work.
  • Allocates trades employees according to schedule and priorities, assigning work to skill and ability to complete scheduled work.
  • Manages discipline, performance, attendance, termination, and chargehand responsibilities.
  • Enforces the collective agreement and management practices to manage trades employees effectively.
  • Manages timekeeping administration and approval of direct and indirect reports.
  • Ensures all employees are provided with a respectful and harassment‑free work environment.
  • Works closely with Wellness and Abilities Management as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • College degree or trades certification preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of related trades work experience or advanced education in a related field with 2 years’ related trades work experience.
  • Proficient knowledge of trade responsibilities specific to heavy manufacturing (welding, metal fabrication, electrical, pipefitting, mechanical, rigging).
  • Supervisory experience.
