Cognative Cafe is a community-oriented coffee shop in Hendersonville, NC. We provide amazing local products such as coffee, pastries, small bites, wine & beer, and other items we find unique. Cognative also provides an unassuming, comfortable space to convene with friends or solo. JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for individuals who have a passion for community and coffee, and who enjoy providing outstanding hospitality any day of the week. Coffee is our first love. If you're new to specialty coffee, you'll likely find yourself learning more about coffee than you ever expected. If you're a specialty coffee pro, know the coffee brewing control chart like the back of your hand, and can explain the nuances of aerobic vs. anaerobic fermentation in coffee processing, you'll likely find yourself part of a fun team making delicious coffee for a growing area and might learn some new approaches to hospitality.

Our coffee menu is relatively simple with a focus on the classics, some house made syrups, and some fun, inventive drinks we all work together to create. We also have a full food program and make everything from scratch. We take the same intention and focus on quality preparation for food as we do for coffee. As a barista, you'll be working closely alongside your coworkers to deliver a great experience for our guests. We collaborate as a team where everyone is involved in taking care of our guests and keeping the shop operating at its best.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

This position is responsible for working in conjunction with the Store Manager, and Shift Supervisors to ensure the values and vision of Cafe are lived out daily by caring for our customers and ensuring our team has the tools they need to most effectively serve our guests. You will work to ensure everyone is meeting/exceeding company standards in guest interaction, workflow, coffee extraction, milk steaming, latte art, cleaning/stocking practices, etc.

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position starts at $11.25/hour ($4/hour premium over minimum wage) and is tipped from the cafe wide tip pool, which is averaging around $8/hour. We offer a generous raise schedule which will be discussed upon interview/hiring. We guarantee a minimum of $17.55/hr in hourly wages and tips combined which is the current local Living Wage rate set by Just Economics of WNC.

JOB DUTIES

 Learn our products (coffee & apparel), standards, POS system, and recipes

 Create outstanding food and beverages, customer experience, and comradery

 Educate customers on our coffee & tea, beer & wine, merchandise, and local

offerings/partnerships

 Clean store, following daily, weekly and monthly tasks

 Serve customers efficiently and pleasantly

 Keep the café well stocked and prepared to serve cash

 Handle cash responsibly

JOB DUTIES

 Must be 18 years or older

 This position will require long periods of standing, walking and being on your feet

 Regularly working with hot food & beverages, as well as sharp objects

 Availability to work weekdays and weekends, between the hours of 6:30am and

6:30pm. Must have some availability Sat and/or Sun.

 Able to learn and follow all Responsible Alcohol Server Program (R.A.S.P.) guidelines

 Ability to work well as a team as well as individually

 One year of service industry experience is preferred but not required

 Preference will be given to those with prior barista experience
