CEM Construction Company | Lakeland, FL (Office-Based) | Projects Across Central & Southwest Florida

CEM Construction Company, the in-house construction arm of a fast-growing multifamily development firm, is seeking a skilled Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support a major ground-up multifamily development. This is not an entry-level or administrative role—we are looking for an APM with real project experience who wants hands-on responsibility, long-term stability, and the opportunity to grow into a Project Manager role.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: Competitive
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • PTO + company holidays
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Long-term growth, training, and career development
  • Stable company with a strong Florida market presence and supportive culture

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager will support field and office operations for a major multifamily development. This role is suited for someone who thrives on coordination, organization, problem-solving, and keeping project momentum moving. You will work closely with PMs, superintendents, subcontractors, design teams, inspectors, and ownership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Project Manager and field leadership from start to finish on ground-up multifamily construction.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, logs, and reports.
  • Manage submittals, RFIs, meeting minutes, and coordination with architects and engineers.
  • Assist with procurement, scheduling, delivery tracking, and trade coordination.
  • Track inspections, reporting, and jurisdictional communications.
  • Support budget and change order documentation.
  • Assist with punch lists, warranty documents, closeout packages, and turnover materials.
  • Use project management tools (Procore or similar) to keep information updated and flowing.
  • Ensure communication between office, field, subcontractors, and design teams remains clear and timely.

Required Qualifications

This is NOT an entry-level or office admin role. You must have real APM experience on active construction projects.

Must-Have Experience

  • Assistant Project Manager experience on multifamily or similar large-scale construction projects.
  • We will consider adjacent experience (student housing, senior living, large condo, hospitality, etc.) if the scale and complexity are comparable.
  • Experience working in Florida construction markets (required).
  • Ability to confidently support PMs, supers, subcontractors, inspectors, and design teams.
  • Strong coordination skills with proven ability to manage scheduling, documentation, and reporting.
  • Experience managing submittals, RFIs, logs, and closeout documentation.
  • Experience with Procore/Autodesk or similar construction management software.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and communication.
  • Desire for hands-on APM responsibility, not just paperwork.
  • Interest in long-term growth within a stable company with a strong Florida project pipeline.
  • A proactive mindset—you enjoy organizing information, solving problems, and keeping projects moving forward.
  • Desire to learn from PM leadership and grow into more responsibility over time.
