Not all days are the same, but the responsibilities of a DSP are:

  • Performing personal care tasks, including feeding, and medical monitoring
  • Assist with positive relationships between individuals served and their housemates.
  • Ensuring client safety and maintaining a safe environment
  • Encouraging self-help activities
  • Maintain a person-centered approach, providing individual choices, independence, dignity, and respect.
  • Responsibility for keeping proper financial records.
  • Assist and teach good personal hygiene, appropriate attire, and modeling social skills.
  • Teach household duties; cleaning, menu-planning, food and meal preparation.
  • Reporting any maintenance needs in the homes and vehicles
  • Observe, report and document all required information promptly and accurately.

Working as a DSP for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities is not for everyone, but for those up to it, it's incredibly rewarding work .

Qualifications you'll need:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School Diploma/GED or higher education
  • Class E Driver's License (or obtain within 90 days)
  • Clean Background Check
  • Communication, Multi-tasking, adaptability, teamwork, time management
  • Patience, compassion, reliable, responsible
  • Proof of Personal Auto Insurance (mandatory to drive company vehicles)

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: From $18.25 per hour
