Closing Assistant Teacher
The Bucksport Area Child Care Center is seeking an experienced Assistant Teacher to join our team of passionate, energetic educators.
To excel in this role, the Assistant Teacher should have a passion in working with children, have an open mind, and a positive attitude. A willingness to engage and play with our kids is essential. This position is an integral part of our childcare team and will assist in planning and implementing daily schedules and curriculum.
Reports to: Center Director
OVERVIEW
The Closing Assistant Teacher (AT) supports the Director in managing the classroom environment and ensuring the smooth closure of the building. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring student behavior to maintain a positive learning atmosphere
- Assisting with lesson implementation and student engagement
- Cleaning and organizing the classroom to ensure a safe and tidy environment
- Completing the nightly closing checklist to prepare the facility for the next day
This role is essential for fostering an effective learning space and ensuring the overall safety and readiness of the school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate respect, kindness, and care for each child and staff member
- Keeping child's information confidential at all times
- Uphold all classroom norms and behaviors; implement BACCC policies and procedures
- Track children's attendance
- In-person communication with parents/guardians and families during pick up
- Notify the Center Director of unusual behaviors, health, or physical conditions warranting attention
- Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and arranged spaces
- Complete closing cleaning checklist to ensure the building is ready for opening the following day
- Create a safe, inviting, pleasant, and tidy atmosphere for children

Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program
BACCC staff are eligible for Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program. The program provides salary supplements to child care providers and early childhood educators who work directly with children in licensed facilities or family child care programs.
The program is based on a tiered system that considers the educator's level of education and experience, as well as the number of workers per tier and available funding.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age
- Experience working with children or a degree in early childhood education is preferred but we are willing to train and mentor new childcare professionals
- Physical ability to perform all necessary duties, including walking, reaching, lifting, crouching or kneeling, actively standing/monitoring, and sitting/playing with children
- Approved Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and Background Check
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred but we will provide training for new childcare employees
- Ability to perform work requested by Center Director
- Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities
- Ability to focus full-attention on classroom activities, including storing cell phones in designated areas
HOURS
BACCC is open after and before standard business operating hours to support working families. However, Closing AT's will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30p.m.
COMPENSATION
$ based on experience and qualifications
