Facilities Maintenance Technician

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing a wide variety of general maintenance and repair functions for convent-own facilities. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, completing maintenance work requests, performing routine preventative maintenance, assisting vendors in contracted work as needed, maintaining tidy and presentable grounds, etc. The maintenance team does have an on-call rotation for after-hours needs, which are infrequent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The incumbent must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license. The desired candidate should possess 2 years of performing or assisting with Preventative Maintenance functions and 2 years of experience in repair and maintenance of mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems. Carpentry and painting skills are desired.

Knowledge of a wide-range of maintenance functions is essential – ranging from minor mechanical repair to basic construction skills. Knowledge of grounds and maintenance equipment is desired. The incumbent is in daily contact with Sisters, staff, contractors, and the general public, and should possess strong interpersonal skills.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical physical requirements include standing/walking/sitting throughout the day based on the work being performed. Due to some confined workspaces, crouching, reaching, bending, stooping, and/or kneeling should be expected. The incumbent will likely be required to maneuver stairs, ramps, ladders, and possible scaffolding. Frequent in/out of work vehicles should be expected. Lifting/carrying or pushing/pulling of objects of approximately 50 pounds is frequent. Operation of power tools is frequent.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position includes both work in the outside elements and inside of buildings. Some areas are climate controlled; many are not.
