About the Role

We're hiring a Senior Consultant to join Sunstone Environmental Solutions and take the lead on managing complex environmental projects for mining clients in the Western U.S.

This is a technical leadership role focused on managing permitting and compliance programs, coordinating subcontractors, and driving high-quality work across a team. You'll serve as the technical lead on complex environmental projects, managing programs, guiding team members, and coordinating efforts with clients and subcontractors.

What You'll Do

  • Project Management: Oversee large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects involving permitting, compliance, and environmental planning.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise internal team members (up to 5), coordinate deliverables, and manage day-to-day execution.
  • Subcontractor Oversight: Coordinate biologists, drillers, mining engineers, surveyors, and other vendors on behalf of clients.
  • Technical Writing: Prepare or oversee NEPA, PoOs, NOIs, SWPPPs, reclamation plans, and compliance documentation.
  • Agency Coordination: Interface with federal, state, and local agencies (Nevada, Arizona, Idaho experience preferred).
  • Proposal Development: Lead technical scoping and proposal writing for new projects.
  • High-Level Field Presence: Conduct occasional field visits for oversight, site meetings, or QA/QC.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Geology, or related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in environmental consulting or mining with a strong focus on project management.
  • Technical Depth: Proven expertise in regulatory compliance and permitting (e.g., NEPA, NDEP, BLM, USFS). Experience in Nevada is preferred but not required.
  • Leadership: Experience supervising staff, subcontractors, and timelines across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Work Style: Organized, self-directed, confident communicator, and reliable under pressure.
  • Location: Must live in the greater Reno area or be willing to relocate upon hire.

What Makes This Role Different

  • Leadership without Bureaucracy: You'll manage people and projects, not just spreadsheets. We give you autonomy and support to drive real impact.
  • Remote with Flexibility: Work from home, with occasional in-person collaboration when our future hybrid office opens in the Reno area.
  • Trusted Expertise: Join a team that values technical skill and proactive solutions over red tape – your expertise will shape client success.
  • High-Performance Rewards: We reward hard work and results with competitive pay, performance bonuses, and accelerated career growth. Thrive in a merit-driven culture where top performers get recognized, promoted, and compensated for exceeding expectations – while maintaining availability during core business hours (8–5) for seamless team execution.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Competitive Salary, TBD based on experience.
  • Health: Company-paid medical, dental, and vision.
  • 401(k): With 4% company match.
  • PTO: Flexible time off – schedule as needed, provided deliverables are met.
  • Culture: Collaborative yet independent, with a focus on meaningful work, professional growth, and rewarding high achievement in a no-drama setting.
