Job Summary:
The Tunnels Machine Operator is responsible for operating specialized machinery to mix, load, and distribute supplements, spawn, and compost used in mushroom cultivation. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the homogeneous blending of materials to maintain the quality and consistency of the final substrate.
This is an hourly position requiring approximately 52 hours of work per week. Each work week includes one weekend day off. Work hours typically begin between 3:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate mixing systems to blend compost, spawn, and supplements according to specifications.
- Ensure accurate measurement and distribution of materials to achieve optimal substrate quality.
- Perform visual and manual inspections to identify inconsistencies, contamination, or clumping in the mixture.
- Perform cleaning duties to maintain sanitation in the facility, including cleaning winches, cassette, tunnel floors, tunnel nets, and all tools and machinery used in the tunnel area.
- Monitor and adjust machine settings to maintain quality control.
- Conduct routine inspections and perform basic maintenance on machinery to ensure efficient operation.
- Follow safety protocols when handling heavy materials and machinery to prevent accidents.
- Report equipment malfunctions or irregularities to the supervisor.
- Unload trucks and organize materials in the production area.
- Operate forklifts to efficiently transport raw materials and finished substrate.
- Drive manual transmission trucks for deliveries or internal material transportation.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory and records of mixed batches.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate mixing and quality control.
- Experience operating industrial machinery
- Ability to follow technical instructions and accurately record data.
- Understanding of industrial safety standards and the ability to apply them consistently.
- Ability to perform tasks that require standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a focus on productivity and quality.
- Willingness to work in varying conditions of temperature, humidity, and noise.
- Availability to work extended shifts and begin work early in the morning.
