Job Summary
We are a growing paint and coatings manufacturer, specializing in athletic field, traffic marking, and industrial coatings, committed to producing high-quality products through innovation, consistency, and strong technical standards. We're looking for a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our team and support daily testing, quality control, and product development activities.
The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing routine laboratory testing on raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products to ensure they meet company and industry standards. This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow standardized test methods, and comfort working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
This position requires the skill and ability to see color and distinguish color differences between samples.
Responsibilities
- Conduct quality control tests on incoming raw materials, wet samples, dry films, color standards and finished goods.
- Perform viscosity, density, pH, grind gauge, adhesion, hardness, gloss, opacity, and other industry-standard paint tests
- Prepare and evaluate drawdowns, spray-outs, and color matching using spectrophotometers or visual comparison.
- Document and record all test results accurately in lab systems and maintain proper sample tracking
- Assist in troubleshooting batch inconsistencies and supporting production adjustments.
- Follow established SOPs, safety guidelines, and industry regulations (OSHA, ASTM standards, etc.)
- Maintain lab equipment, calibration logs, and clean organized work areas
- Support R&D projects, trial batches, and formulation work as needed
- Communicate results clearly with production, quality, and management teams
- Participate in continuous improvement efforts to enhance product quality and lab efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- 1-2 years of experience in a laboratory, chemical, paint, coatings, or manufacturing environment
- Basic understanding of lab equipment and measurement techniques
- Strong math, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work around chemicals, solvents, and production equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Material Science, or related field
- 2-5 years' experience with Paint/Coating testing
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
