Position Overview
The Warehouse Manager is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of all warehouse activities, ensuring accurate inventory control, cost-effective freight management, and a safe, efficient workplace. This role balances hands-on involvement—such as forklift operation and palletization—with strategic responsibilities such as carrier negotiations, KPI tracking, and continuous-improvement initiatives rooted in lean principles.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities
- Shipment Coordination

- Ensure proper documentation, labeling, and carrier compliance for on-time pickups and deliveries.
- Inventory Control
- Maintain optimal stock levels through regular cycle counts and system reconciliation.
- Proactively alert the purchasing team of reorder points or spikes in demand to prevent stockouts or overstocking.
- Hands-On Warehouse Support
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment to assist with palletization, staging, loading, and unloading trucks.
- Model and enforce best safety practices on the floor.
- Damage & Claims Management
- Inspect inbound and outbound products for damages, file freight claims promptly, and follow through to resolution.
- Document root causes and collaborate with carriers, vendors, and internal teams to minimize future losses.
- Freight Cost Optimization
- Continuously analyze freight spend, negotiate carrier rates, and consolidate shipments where feasible.
- Develop creative routing and packaging solutions that reduce costs without sacrificing service quality.
- 3PL & External Partner Coordination
- Engage and manage third-party logistics (3PL) providers during peak demand, overflow storage, or specialized projects.
- Monitor 3PL performance against service-level agreements and reconcile invoices.
- Performance Monitoring & Reporting
- Track KPIs such as order accuracy, on-time shipments, dock-to-stock time, and labor productivity.
- Present weekly and monthly performance dashboards to leadership, highlighting wins and targeted corrective actions.
Skills
- Proficiency in shipping and receiving processes.
- Experience with warehouse management systems (WMS) for tracking inventory and orders.
- Strong knowledge of inventory control techniques and best practices.
