Job Summary:

2 positions are available: (1) Junior Instructor and (2) Instructor. Offers will be made at the level determined by your experience and skills as evaluated during your interview process.

Elemental Hardware instructors play a critical role in delivering youth empowerment through hands-on activities and social and emotional learning. You will develop and use your classroom management skills to engage students in a variety of project-based learning experiences that expose them to unique career pathway options. You will also cultivate relationships with our communities of students, staff, parents, and organizational partners to support the overall success of the different programs that we work with.

Elemental Hardware staff will teach you how to master different hands-on program offerings we teach (DIY Builders, DIY Makers, and Grow-It-Yourself), and you will have several growth and development opportunities each year to strengthen your classroom management, leadership, and teaching skills.

Day-to-day, you may work alongside other Elemental Hardware staff as well as partner site staff to supervise youth and provide meaningful learning experiences for them. After each class and during team meetings, you will share vital feedback and insights that will directly influence the quality and content of our programs. Instructors may have opportunities to participate in community events and professional development training and learning days (some travel required).

This role reports to the Instructional Program Manager. Must have shift availability primarily in the afternoons and the ability to travel between partner sites throughout Ventura County.

Onboarding consists of:

  • Mandatory personnel trainings (both online and in-person)
  • Hands-on instruction with our staff
  • Written and video instructional material
  • Shadowing and supervised instructional support

Ongoing training (both online and in-person) as well regular team meetings to debrief on learnings, challenges, and opportunities will be required throughout employment.

Requirements

  • Communicate availability for shifts Monday - Friday (days may vary) between 12pm - 6pm
  • Must be able to comfortably communicate with students, parents, and staff in Spanish
  • Have a current Drivers License and reliable form of transportation
  • Must be able to pass live scan fingerprinting and background check within 2 weeks of job offer date
  • Current First Aid/AED Certification, or willingness to acquire within 2 weeks of job offer date
  • Current CPR Certification, or willingness to acquire within 2 weeks of job offer date
  • Current, negative TB test
  • Mandated reporter training (awareness of how to recognize and report suspected child maltreatment), or willingness to go through training

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working with students ages years of age
  • Classroom management experience a plus

Our Hiring & Onboarding Process:

  • Phone screen with HR
  • In-person interviews & skills assessment
  • Offer -- all offers begin at $18 per hour for Junior Instructors and $20 per hour for Instructors. Upon completion, your rate will be re-evaluated based on skills & performance.
  • Reference checks and certification + documentation gathering (CPR, First Aid/AED, Mandated Reporter Training, proof of recent negative TB test, etc.) + livescan background check
  • In-Person Orientation on first day to review onboarding plan, complete mandatory trainings, and align on role expectations

We expect onboarding and training to take anywhere between 2 - 8 weeks depending on your level of experience, scheduling availability, speed of comprehension, and passing on the above-mentioned assessments.

Onboarding and training is fully paid at $18 / hour for Junior Instructors and $20 / hour for Instructors.

Upon completing your onboarding and training, your compensation will be re-evaluated based on skills and performance between the range of $19 - $23 per hour for Junior Instructors and $21 - $27 per hour for Instructors.
