Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Technology Infrastructure, the Technical Architect will be responsible for the design, implementation, security and support of the server and network infrastructure of the City. This senior role will provide leadership, guidance, support and mentorship to other members of the Technology Infrastructure team. The Technical Architect will provide technical expertise and guidance on how technology solutions will fit and work with existing technology stack.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan, design, implement, maintain and support the infrastructure and technology platform for the City that are secure, reliable, scalable, and implemented in accordance with industry accepted best practices. Provide third-tier support for technical issues.
  • Provide strong technical leadership, guidance, support and mentorship to other members of the Technology Infrastructure team.
  • Research and understand emerging trends and technologies to provide guidance and advice to management and other members of the IT team in how they can be leveraged for business benefit. 
  • Design and implement system availability solutions in support of broader business continuity and disaster recovery needs. Architect and administer tiered Enterprise backup technology.
  • Establish and maintain documentation, standards, and procedures.
  • Implement and maintain service management strategies that align with the ITIL framework
  • Manage small to medium projects and act as technical lead on larger projects to provide technical guidance to project managers, system designers, applications developers and testers throughout the development process.

Education and Experience
  • Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • Microsoft Certification, Cisco certification and VMware Certification is required
  • CISSP, ITIL Foundations v3, and/or experience with VoIP technology are considered assets
  • 5 years relevent IT experience
Required Skills/Knowledge
  • Hands-on architecture experience with AD/DNS/DHCP/GPO using Microsoft Windows Technologies.
  • Experience with architecting and administering tiered Enterprise backup technology 
  • Experience designing and administering of email environments specifically with Microsoft Exchange 2010 and greater.
  • Experience designing and maintaining Storage Area Networks
  • Experience with disaster recovery design and implementation
  • Experience and working knowledge of VMware design and technology
  • Experience and working knowledge of networking design and technology including switches, firewalls and VPN
  • The ability to establish and maintain an effective consulting relationship with internal clients
  • The ability to work effectively and collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Strategic thinker with strong understanding of emerging technologies and business issues and have in-depth knowledge of and experience with project management tools and application implementation methodologies.
  • Must be available to work evenings, flex shifts, on-call/standby, extended hours and statutory holidays when required.  
  • Must be and willing and able to transport yourself to City work sites as required (mileage compensated).
  • Requires satisfactory Police Criminal Records Check
