Sr. PostgreSQL Database Administrator

MUST BE LOCATED OR WILLING TO RELOCATE TO THE STATE OF TEXAS

Role is remote first, but the candidate/employee must reside in the state of Texas

PostgreSQL DBA — Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and optimize PostgreSQL databases across development, test, and production environments.
• Perform installation, configuration, major/minor version upgrades, and patching of PostgreSQL clusters.
• Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and execute tuning at the SQL, schema, and system level.
• Design and maintain high-availability and disaster recovery strategies (streaming replication, failover tooling, backups).
• Implement and maintain robust backup/restore strategies using native PostgreSQL tools (pgBackRest, pg_basebackup, etc.).
• Troubleshoot and resolve database outages, performance issues, and replication problems.
• Automate routine operational tasks using scripting (bash, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, etc.).
• Work with development teams to create efficient schemas, indexes, and queries.
• Ensure database security, user access management, and auditing controls.
• Document database architecture, procedures, and standard operating practices.
• Participate in on-call rotation and provide incident leadership during critical database issues.

Must-Haves

• 5+ years of experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments.
• Strong fluency with PostgreSQL architecture, internals, configuration parameters, and performance tuning.
• Proven experience with replication (physical/logical), HA/DR setups, and failover processes.
• Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience analyzing and optimizing query performance.
• Solid Linux administration skills (CentOS/RHEL/Ubuntu) and command-line troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with backup/restore tooling: pgBackRest, WAL archiving, base backups.
• Experience supporting major/minor PostgreSQL upgrades in live environments.
• Scripting experience (bash, Python, or similar) for automation.
• Experience with monitoring tools (pg_stat_statements, pganalyze, Prometheus, Grafana, etc.).
• Excellent incident management and communication skills during outages.
• Ability to work in an on-call rotation.
