HVAC Service Technician – Level 3

STAR Heating Cooling Plumbing – Fishers, IN
Pay: $24+/hour + bonuses + incentives

Summary/Objective

Provide service and maintenance on residential and commercial heating and air conditioning systems according to company standards, ensuring a high-quality customer experience. Educate customers on maintenance agreements, accessories, and system replacement options.

Position Type & Schedule

• Full-time
• Monday–Friday, 7:45 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
• On-call rotation required
• Occasional evenings or weekends based on call load

Required Qualifications

• Must pass drug and background screening
• Valid driver's license; insurable under company policy
• EPA 608 Type II (or ability to obtain within 3 months)
• 3+ years HVAC service experience
• Strong communication skills
• Ability to safely use all tools required for the job
• Must supply standard technician tools

Preferred Experience

• HVAC trade school training
• Ductless/mini-split experience
• Indoor Air Quality product knowledge
• Light commercial RTU service
• Geothermal system experience
• Refrigeration experience

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Arrive at job sites on time as dispatched
• Travel between jobs efficiently throughout the workday
• Report arrival and departure to dispatch
• Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality
• Operate and maintain company vehicle
• Install IAQ products as assigned
• Carry out instructions from supervisor/dispatcher in a timely manner
• Assist with tracking and reporting vehicle maintenance needs
• Report tool/equipment issues promptly
• Communicate professionally with customers
• Collect C.O.D. payments as directed
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude
• Complete all service forms and documentation accurately
• Promote and explain maintenance agreement programs
• Diagnose system problems, recommend solutions, and perform repairs
• Provide replacement options based on company guidelines
• Demonstrate competency in electrical troubleshooting, refrigeration diagnostics, and airflow analysis
• Diagnose airflow & static pressure issues
• Perform combustion analysis on gas furnaces
• Use ServiceTitan or similar dispatch software
• Troubleshoot PSC and ECM motors
• Check and adjust charge (superheat/subcooling)
• Mentor Level 1 & 2 techs as assigned
• Complete planned maintenance using company checklists
• Other duties as assigned

Work Environment

Exposure to heat, cold, wind, wet conditions, insects, animals, confined spaces, heights, and varying light levels.

Physical Demands

Reaching, bending, stooping, walking, crawling, lifting and carrying up to 75–100 lbs with or without assistance, and using ladders, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.
