At Engine by Starling, we are on a mission to partner with leading banks around the world that aspire to build rapid-growth businesses on our technology.
Engine is the software‑as‑a‑service (SaaS) business behind Starling Bank. After separating two years ago, it now powers banks and financial institutions worldwide, delivering innovative digital features and efficient back‑office processes that were key to Starling’s success.
Hybrid Working We adopt a hybrid approach. Ideally you’ll be within commuting distance of one of our offices so we can collaborate in person.
About the Role As Mobile Platform Owner you’ll collaborate with cross‑functional technology teams and product engineering mobile squads to ensure our mobile SDKs meet client needs and align with the company’s strategy and risk appetite. You’ll champion our clients across the mobile department and the broader organisation, driving adoption, advocacy and product consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Define and execute the mobile platform strategy: work with mobile engineering teams and product owners to deliver high‑impact outcomes that ensure strong product consistency across all SDK features.
Gather feedback and decompose problems: listen to teams, collect requirements and break down complex problems into actionable projects.
Drive adoption and advocacy: promote the platform’s capabilities, educate teams and stakeholders, and ensure widespread adoption via documentation, training and internal marketing.
Measure success: define key success metrics (e.g., SDK integration lead time).
Ensure security and compliance: partner with security and compliance teams to embed best practices and meet regulatory requirements.
Requirements
Strong communication skills, able to simplify and clarify complex architectural problems for stakeholders ranging from junior engineers to executive leadership.
Data‑driven mindset with experience making evidence‑based product decisions.
Proven ability to act as the user voice and influence teams and stakeholders without direct authority, especially in engineering‑led environments.
Comfortable working directly with engineers, internally and externally; you can "speak their language" and understand how they build or integrate a mobile SDK.
Nice to have
Hands‑on engineering experience or a technical background, particularly in mobile development.
Experience in the FinTech or banking industry.
Experience taking a software product from an internal tool to an external, revenue‑generating offering.
Interview Process Interviewing is a two‑way process designed to give you and us a chance to get to know each other. It is conversational; come prepared with questions and curiosity.
Stage 1 – 45 minutes with a member of the technical team.
Stage 2 – 60 minutes with two team members.
Stage 3 – Final interview with the CTO, Deputy CTO, or Engineering Director.
Benefits
33 days holiday, including public holidays; an extra day for your birthday.
Annual leave increases with service length, and you can buy or sell up to five extra days.
16 hours paid volunteering time per year.
Salary sacrifice and company‑enhanced pension scheme.
Life insurance at 4× your salary and group income protection.
Private Medical Insurance with VitalityHealth, including mental health support and cancer care; partner discounts (Waitrose, Mr&Mrs Smith, Peloton).
Generous family‑friendly policies.
Referral incentive scheme.
Perkbox membership: retail discounts, wellness platform, weekly free and boosted perks.
Access to initiatives like Cycle to Work, salary‑sacrificed gym partnerships, and electric vehicle leasing.
About Us You may be deterred by a job that doesn’t tick every box. Forget that – we’re open to discussion. We’re on a mission to radically reshape banking and rely on a brilliant, inclusive team to solve problems together.
