About Us

ZMC Associates is a fast-growing professional services firm that provides outsourced accounting, controller, and financial consulting support to small and mid-sized businesses nationwide. We're seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager who can lead a high-performing accounting team while driving operational excellence, innovation, and client satisfaction.

About the Role

This role exists to ensure timely, accurate, and strategic delivery of accounting services for ZMC Associates' professional service businesses. The Accounting Manager plays a key role in supervising accounting operations, maintaining financial integrity, and supporting the overall efficiency of the accounting department. This role contributes directly to client satisfaction, internal process excellence, and the firm's ability to scale with quality. Without this position, our accounting function would lack consistency, strategic oversight, and the bandwidth to handle increasingly complex financial needs.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Compliance & Oversight

  • Lead, train, and hold accountable a team of accounting professionals.
  • Maintain and review client financial records to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Supervise the day-to-day work of junior accountants and bookkeepers, providing mentorship and quality control.
  • Execute and review accounting tasks including payroll processing, A/P, depreciation schedules, and reconciliations.
  • Handle payroll tax filings, and support setup and processing across platforms like Gusto.
  • Lead clean-up projects to correct and optimize financial records, and ensure adherence to GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide detailed financial reporting and insights that support client advisory and planning decisions.

Client Service & Communication

  • Communicate via secure messaging, video calls, and phone to address accounting, payroll, and compliance issues.
  • Maintain professional relationships through proactive updates and clear documentation.
  • Translate financial data into meaningful insights, contributing to broader tax strategy and business objectives.
  • Manage sensitive financial information with discretion and professionalism.

Process Improvement & Collaboration

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems and workflows within the accounting function.
  • Leverage technology (e.g., QBO, Gusto, Sharepoint) to streamline operations and increase transparency.
  • Contribute to firm-wide process improvement initiatives, strategic planning and cross-functional projects.
  • Support EOS-related initiatives, such as assisting in departmental Rocks or contributing to the firm's Scorecard metrics as assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Accounting or a related field; CPA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in public accounting, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting; familiarity with FASB, payroll, depreciation, sales tax, and internal controls.
  • Experience with accrual accounting and Year End General Journal Entries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead bookkeeping clean-ups, resolve accounting discrepancies, and improve workflows.
  • Advanced QuickBooks experience required (certification a plus).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiar with collaboration/project management tools (e.g., Keeper/Double, Liscio).
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate remote teams.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and remote-ready workspace required.
  • Exposure to or experience with the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) is a plus.
