Duties

• Plan and develop age-appropriate menus that meet nutritional guidelines and dietary needs of children in care
• Prepare, cook, and serve healthy meals and snacks in accordance with food safety standards and dietary restrictions
• Ensure all food handling, storage, and sanitation procedures comply with health regulations to maintain a safe kitchen environment
• Assist with food portioning, plating, and presentation to encourage positive eating habits among children
• Maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and ingredients, placing orders as needed to ensure smooth meal service
• Collaborate with staff to accommodate special dietary requirements or allergies
• Support meal times by serving food efficiently and courteously, creating a welcoming atmosphere for children
• Clean kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas thoroughly after each shift to uphold hygiene standards

Requirements

• Proven experience in food preparation, cooking, or food service—preferably within a childcare or educational setting
• Knowledge of dietary department practices, including menu planning tailored for young children's nutritional needs
• Strong understanding of food safety protocols and proper food handling techniques
• Previous experience as a dietary aide or in the food industry is highly desirable
• Excellent knife skills and proficiency in meal preparation techniques
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
• Familiarity with catering or fine dining experience is a plus but not required
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with team members
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate loads as needed
