Cook

The Prep Cook plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen team by assisting in the preparation and service of menu items. This role encompasses various kitchen activities, such as pot washing, dish washing, and overall cleaning responsibilities. Additionally, the Prep Cook is responsible for organizing and storing both food and non-food supplies, contributing to the efficient functioning of the kitchen. 

• Adhere to residents' special diet restrictions and menus based on written and oral instructions. 
• • Perform a range of food preparation tasks beyond cooking, including preparing cold foods, handling shellfish, slicing meat, and brewing coffee or tea. 
• • Follow the prep list created by chefs to plan daily tasks. 
• • Label and organize all ingredients on shelves for easy accessibility. 
• • Measure ingredients and seasonings accurately for cooking. 
• • Prepare cooking ingredients by washing, chopping vegetables, and cutting meat. 
• • Execute basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces and parboiling food. 
• • Prepare simple dishes, including salads and entrees. 
• • Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of trash. 
• • Ensure proper storage of all food and other items. 
• • Comply with nutrition and sanitation guidelines. 
• • Maintain a safe and secure kitchen environment, following established safety standards. 
• • Assist in reordering stock and food supplies. 
• • Review recipes to ensure all necessary ingredients are available for menu item production. 
• • Check and accept deliveries as needed. 
• • Prepare menu items in a timely manner according to the schedule. 
• • Maintain clean and sanitary workstations. 
• • Ensure availability of cleaning and sanitizing solutions at workstations. 
• • Fulfill room service orders as required. 
• • Assist in organizing the serving line for dish-up. 
• • Expedite plating and service as instructed. 
• • Secure walk-in coolers, ice cream freezers, and equipment, ensuring all appliances are turned off. 
• • Prepare and cook all food items and meals in line with planned menus and recipes. 
• • Ensure that all meals and food preparations are of high quality and palatable. 
• • Assist in food preparation for special events, parties, and gatherings. 
• • Prepare and serve food in compliance with sanitary regulations and established policies and procedures, reporting any incidents or infractions. 
• Assist in purchasing, inventory management, receipt of deliveries, and storage of food and supplies. 
• Maintain organized and adequate stock levels of staple and non-staple food items, supplies, and equipment. 
• Maintain kitchen cleanliness, safety, and sanitation at all times, adhering to assigned cleaning schedules. 
• Assist in the preparation and execution of special events, banquets, and themed meals. 
• Prepare and assist in serving meals as per the menu and recipes. 
• Ensure proper food transportation, plate-up, and portion control. 
• Guarantee that residents and guests receive high-quality food promptly. 
• Interact with residents daily to gather their feedback, suggestions, and concerns about meals. 
• Assist with dishwashing, cleaning dishes, silverware, pots, pans, and equipment after each meal, ensuring all items are clean and spotless. 
• Complete tasks as assigned on the cleaning schedule. 
• Maintain and document proper temperature controls, food storage, and rotation. 
• Perform all side work and setup/breakdown duties as assigned. 
• Regularly meet with the Dining Services Director to discuss menus, service procedures, and other relevant matters. 
• Report any unusual incidents to the Dining Services Director, Executive Director, or Manager on duty. 
• Respond promptly and assist with any resident, staff, guest, or emergency situations. 
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
