Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated IDD Direct Support Professional to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities in a residential setting. Your primary focus will be on enhancing the quality of life for residents by assisting them with daily living activities and fostering a supportive environment. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about caregiving and have experience in assisted living, group homes, or similar settings.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
- Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive interactions and personal growth among residents.
- Maintain a clean and safe living environment by performing light housekeeping duties.
- Support residents in social activities and encourage participation in community events.
- Document resident progress and report any changes in behavior or health to the supervisory staff.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including social workers, nurses, and other caregivers to ensure comprehensive care for each resident.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance residents' well-being.
Requirements
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
- Familiarity with ADLs and caregiving practices is essential.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques is a plus.
- Previous experience in assisted living, nursing homes, or group homes is beneficial.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and respecting the dignity of all residents.
- Ability to perform light cleaning tasks and maintain a tidy environment.
- A background in social work or related fields is advantageous but not required.
