Established in 1895, Brooklawn Country Club is one of Connecticut's premier private clubs, known for its rich tradition, family-friendly community, and exceptional dining experience. Our culinary team prides itself on scratch-made menus, fresh seasonal ingredients, and a commitment to quality that keeps our members coming back.
We're a close-knit, collaborative team that values professionalism, pride in our craft, and genuine hospitality.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a hands-on Executive Sous Chef to join our team. Someone who's passionate about cooking, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and leads by example.
This is a working leadership role—you'll be on the line, leading production, supporting your team, and helping drive consistency and excellence across all Club dining outlets, from casual fare to fine dining and special events.
You'll work closely with our Executive Chef to shape menus, mentor staff, and elevate the member dining experience. For a motivated, team-oriented chef, this is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and creative kitchen.
What You'll Do
- Lead and participate in daily food preparation and service across all dining areas and events.
- Work the line during peak service to set the pace, quality, and standard.
- Support menu planning, seasonal updates, and creative specials.
- Train, coach, and motivate kitchen staff in a collaborative, team-first environment.
- Ensure consistent food quality, presentation, and sanitation standards.
- Assist with purchasing, inventory, and cost control to meet budget targets.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef, Dining Room, and Events teams to ensure smooth operations and great member experiences.
- Step in as acting kitchen leader in the Executive Chef's absence.
What We're Looking For
- 7–10+ years of progressive culinary experience in fine dining, private clubs, or hospitality.
- At least 2 years in a supervisory or lead cook role.
- Culinary degree or certification preferred; ServSafe certification required (or within 30 days).
- Strong culinary and knife skills with both classic and contemporary techniques.
- A hands-on leader with a calm, confident presence on the line.
- A strong communicator who motivates others and models professionalism.
- Proactive, organized, and detail-oriented with a sense of urgency and ownership.
- Committed to quality, cleanliness, and continuous improvement.
