The Community Engagement Coordinator for External Affairs will be responsible for helping to oversee the units that exist within the external affairs division within the Office of the State's Attorney for Baltimore City. The ideal candidate will be responsible for various responsibilities including resolving any issues and concerns within the division.

One of the critical responsibilities of this position will include managing the Community Engagement unit, which includes brainstorming and creating methods for community engagement within the State's Attorney's Office to increase the SAO visibility and interaction with this specific constituency group.

This position will collaborate with various units within the State's Attorney's Office and assist with coordinating and executing events that are beneficial to the State's Attorney and his administration.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

Attending meetings and events, including engaging with businesses and other local stakeholders in order to increase the visibility and awareness of the SAO and our commitment to Baltimore City, partnering with city and state agencies to provide information and resources for the external affairs department.

Oversee and implement under the direction of the Chief of External Affairs, the Community Engagement unit, to include various programs specifically geared towards engaging and empowering community members, which includes attending educational events, meetings, town halls, and informational sessions in relation to this specific group.

Create a Community Engagement Plan of Action, complete with a mission statement, intended goals, proposed services and/or engagement activities, a timeline on intended programs and goals, and more.

Create an internal data base of city and state agency staff that provide services, programs or activities that can help assist in our efforts of providing resources to the community including high schools, and institutions of higher learning, faith-based institutions, businesses, and other local stakeholders.

Collaborate and participate with other SAO units and their sponsored events and outreach activities to inform communities related to the SA's plans for public safety. This would also include participation with city and state partners, stakeholders, state/local government and including hospitals, non-profits, educational institutions and/or corporations, who provide programs and services to residents of Baltimore City.

Respond to community inquiries and brief the Chief of External Affairs and senior SAO officials on matters of public interest, issues and concerns.

Maintain existing relationships, connect and cultivate new relationships with partners, stakeholders, state government and community- leaders who provide services and programs for area residents.

Maintain accurate records and prepare daily/weekly/monthly reports on the goals and objectives of your outreach and community engagement plan and all activities related.

Participate in workshops, conferences cultural/meetings to promote the SAO which includes also serving on committees and groups that provide services and programs for residents when invited or requested.

Develop a Community Engagement program manual to be presented to the EA Chief and the SAO Executive Team for approval; and train possible volunteers and support staff to assist with the various tasks, which include staffing at events and activities, attending meetings and other duties that may be assigned.

Represent the State's Attorney at community-related events and activities, as well as those events related to this unit that may require a proclamation or memorandum when the State's Attorney is unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts.

Develop and maintain a database of organizations that provide public safety related programs or resources to residents of Baltimore, also organizations and leaders that may volunteer their services, including those within senior centers, businesses, faith-based institutions and district stakeholders.

Develop and maintain a resource manual of community programs and services implemented under this unit to provide the External Affairs Chief to use in your absence and/or the absence of any employees that participate within this unit.

Research best practices to improve access to the information needed to improve performance and productivity.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge and experience in working with diverse communities;

Knowledge of government structures, city and state agencies along with policies which impact State's Attorney Office business and progress;

Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks/deadlines;

Exceptional interpersonal skills;

Strong writing and oral presentation skills;

Experience in facilitating public meetings and other public forums;

Exceptional organizational and planning skills;

Possess the ability to operate effectively in politically sensitive environments, and adaptable to change;

Basic project management knowledge and experience;

Applicants should possess the ability to work in a high volume environment. The ideal candidate should be able to interact professionally with attorneys, victims and witnesses, have the ability to multitask, have exceptional organizational skills, a positive attitude, be able to work independently, and demonstrate enthusiasm to learn new ideas and concepts. Any other related duties, as assigned.

Qualifications: High School graduation or GED equivalent. The applicant is required to pass a criminal background investigation, which includes fingerprinting.

Salary: Starting at $70,338 commensurate with experience. Compensation also includes competitive benefits package.
