Overview

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Fabrication/Construction Superintendent to lead and oversee complex steel/aluminum fabrication, custom coatings, dock-work, and outdoor construction projects from inception to completion. This pivotal role requires a proactive, detail-oriented leader who can coordinate multiple teams, manage tight schedules, ensure strict safety compliance, and deliver high-quality projects on time and within budget.

As a Superintendent, you will be the driving force behind seamless field execution—fostering collaboration among subcontractors, vendors, surveyors, inspectors, and internal teams while ensuring that all work meets municipal specifications, engineering drawings, and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities

Supervision & Leadership

  • Lead, schedule, and supervise all on-site construction activities, including fabrication crews, finishers, and field installers.
  • Manage and mentor foremen, job-site leads, and diverse labor teams to ensure productivity and quality.
  • Oversee subcontractors and vendors, coordinating their work to maintain workflow efficiency.

Project Execution

  • Manage project layout, shop drawings, steel/aluminum fabrication processes, custom coatings, and installation activities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and oversee blueprint, schematic, and technical drawing interpretation to ensure accurate execution.
  • Collaborate with surveyors, inspectors, project managers, and subcontractors to maintain project milestones.

Scheduling & Coordination

  • Develop detailed daily, weekly, and long-term project schedules.
  • Coordinate deliveries, equipment needs, procurement activities, and manpower allocation.
  • Conduct regular meetings to communicate progress, resolve field issues, and maintain schedule integrity.

Quality Control

  • Verify placement techniques, fabrication methods, and testing procedures to ensure adherence to municipal and engineering requirements.
  • Inspect steel and aluminum fabrication, final design elements, coatings, and installation quality.
  • Maintain quality control records and ensure all work aligns with specifications.

Safety & Compliance

  • Enforce company policies, OSHA regulations, and environmental requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and ongoing safety inspections.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety awareness across all job-site personnel.

Financial & Contract Management

  • Track costs, monitor budgets, and support contract review in coordination with estimators.
  • Monitor crew productivity and material usage to control expenses while maintaining quality.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive daily reports, incident logs, change orders, material quantities, quality control records, and as-built documentation.
  • Utilize BuilderTrend for submittals, punch lists, and document control.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training or a degree in Civil Construction, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 5–10 years of progressive experience in fabrication, heavy civil, infrastructure, concrete, or commercial construction.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
  • Proven experience with construction, dock, or infrastructure projects preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and technical schematics.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and safety program implementation.
  • Technical knowledge of aluminum and steel fabrication and dock construction is a plus.

Additional Qualifications

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be a team player.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing project needs while maintaining quality and productivity.
  • OSHA certification is preferred; First Aid or trade-specific certifications are advantageous.
