Description
The Construction Director is responsible for the managerial leadership and direction of Construction/Design-Build strategic business initiatives, client strategy and development and large team project management. The Construction Director will lead the department in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Manage development and execution of overall Construction strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Provide direction and oversight of business development efforts in identification and vetting of prospective clients and projects. Responsible for business development activities aligning with business goals.
  • Provide leadership to the Construction team; direct and coordinate the Department ensuring efficient and cost effective utilization of staff.
  • Manage Construction business development efforts.
  • Oversee the development of department tools and work flows to increase efficiency in designs, specification development, and project execution for Department.
  • Direct oversight and management of Construction budget and expenditure of funds.
  • Achieve stated targets and standards for Construction financial performance.
  • Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition.
  • Present monthly financial information to leadership including sales and revenue forecasts.
  • Approve strategies for cross-selling engineering services across the organization.
  • Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of Regional Office staff development, quality control and resource coordination.
  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.
  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.
  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to Department Managers.
  • Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.
  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with equal employment opportunity initiatives.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in construction, engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. and 13 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the construction industry and/or project management required.
  • Expert experience in client and business development.
  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.
  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.
  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.
  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred.
