JOB SUMMARY:
The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for the Planning, Set up, Launch of new Manufacturing Processes. The Manufacturing Engineer will also be responsible to Continuously Improve Prototype and Existing Processes. This includes technical support to the Operations and Engineering Teams.
ESSENTIAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- New Processes;
- Develop cost estimates for facilities, equipment, and manpower
- Perform Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA)
- Create Scope of Work, solicit potential suppliers, hold bid meetings, make purchasing recommendations to management, and arrange for purchase of equipment
- Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Lead the manufacturing sign off activity on equipment through all build phases
- Perform / Support Work Instruction Creation
- Design and execute design of experiments (DOE) to identify optimal process parameters for weld strength, electrical resistance, quality, and repeatability
- Prototype Processes;
- Support prototype activities for test and build purposes
- Existing Processes;
- Develop, evaluate, and improve existing manufacturing methods
- Design tools, jigs, fixtures, and assembly aids that are capable for the purpose intended
- Establish process/product flow & control plans for components and systems
- Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of any non-conformities relating to the manufacturing process
- Confers with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes
- Conduct time study and line balancing activities
- Support Work Instruction Maintenance
- Develop and optimize laser welding processes
- Perform weld characterization and failure analysis using cross-sections, microscopy, tensile/shear testing
- Work collaboratively with the maintenance and operations teams to ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition
- Cost Savings;
- Develop cost saving proposals
- Change Management;
- Evaluate the impact of design changes on manufacturing processes, tools, equipment, quality and performance
- Modify and/or enhance manufacturing processes, tools, and equipment to obtain specified functional and operational performance
- Initiate, recommend and/or provide solutions through designated channels
- Verify the implementation of solutions
- Support change control meetings
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- Experience with electrical componets and systems.
- Battery or Power Pack Unit Assembly strongly preferred
- Understanding of Just-in-Time delivery and lean applications.
- 5+ years working experience in a manufacturing plant as a Manufacturing Engineer or equivilent.
- Ability to work in a cross functional environmnet with Operaitons, Engineering, and Quality.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office Suite Applications - Especially within Excel.
- Basic Knowledge Welding, Assembly, and Quality Checking Processes.

- Comply with requirements of the Quality Operating System (QOS) in accordance with ISO 9001:2008
- Identify concerns and initiate corrective actions (through verification) relating to product, process and quality systems
- Initiate preventative and continuous improvement actions relating to product, process and quality systems
HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Follow safe work procedures established by the Company; and follow the OH&S directions of the head of your department or supervisor
- Use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety systems
- Where PPE is required to control exposure to hazards in the workplace, wear and maintain the PPE as directed, as indicated in a risk assessment, or as required in OH&S procedures
- Use other safety and emergency equipment provided in the workplace as directed or as required in OH&S procedures
- Assist with the preparation of risk assessments
- Before commencing work or research, a risk assessment should be conducted to identify, assess and control the hazards associated with the work or research. This should be conducted in conjunction with other relevant staff, researchers and the supervisor
- Report OH&S problems
- Report workplace hazards to the supervisor as soon as possible after they occur
- Report injury or illness arising from workplace activities using the incident/injury reporting system as soon as possible after the incident
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions
- Complete monthly H&S inspections
