The opportunity
We're seeking a
Product Development Project Manager
to take high-level product concepts and drive them from strategy to launch.
Approximately
80% of this role focuses on new product development
, and
20% on strengthening company-wide project management infrastructure
.
You'll collaborate with leadership, translate broad goals into detailed specifications, guide developers and data teams, and build lightweight but effective processes in an environment where project management is still evolving.
What you'll do
New Product Development
- Partner with leadership to define, prioritize, and roadmap new product initiatives.
- Translate abstract product ideas into detailed technical requirements and implementation plans.
- Build and manage timelines, deliverables, workflows, and communication channels.
- Coordinate work across developers, data specialists, and quality assurance.
- Guide testing, feedback, iteration, and final rollout of new products.
- Maintain thorough documentation of decisions, processes, and product specifications.
- Continuously refine project processes to improve clarity, efficiency, and cross-team alignment.
Organizational Project Management Support
- Directly supervise the IT Project Manager
, who handles ongoing system maintenance and provides support for new development projects. - Oversee sysadmin-related projects
, ensuring infrastructure tasks are well-scoped and properly executed. - Serve as a
project-management resource for content team members
who run their own operational projects. - Examples include:
- Helping a team lead structure timelines and workflows for an election-cycle project.
- Assisting a researcher in building a scalable framework for a large U.S. executive-branch data initiative.
- Bring structure and consistency to an environment where project management is currently ad hoc—designing processes, evaluating tools, and setting standards as needed.
What you'll bring
- 3–8 years of experience in product or project management within software, SaaS, or data-driven organizations.
- Proven ability to take ambiguous ideas and translate them into actionable, technically grounded requirements.
- Comfort working with developers and understanding foundational technical concepts (APIs, databases, data pipelines, etc.).
- Exceptional organizational, writing, and communication skills.
- Experience with modern project management platforms (Asana, Monday, Trello, Jira, ClickUp, AceProject, etc.).
- Bonus: Experience with government, public policy, political data, or open-data products.
Compensation
Salary Range:
$90,000–$115,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
