TITLE: Supervisor, Sterile Processing
JOB OVERVIEW: The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of sterile processing operations, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, storage, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies. This position also holds direct responsibility for high-level disinfection (HLD) processes and adherence to infection prevention and control standards. Oversee both general sterile processing and high-level disinfection, ensuring staff adherence to industry standards and facilitating safe, effective workflows in support of patient care and infection prevention.

WORK HOURS: Full - time evening; Hours may vary to cover evening, night, or weekend service needs.
REPORTS TO: Manager, Sterile Processing
PREREQUISITES:
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree with a focus in healthcare or business, preferred.
Minimum three years of experience in Sterile Processing and/or Operating Room, required.
Minimum one year of lead or supervisory experience, preferred.
Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), or Certification Board for Sterile Processing (CBSPD), required.
Prior experience working with instrument tracking systems and materials ordering systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong knowledge of infection control, decontamination, sterilization, high-level disinfecting standards, and best practices
Familiarity with group purchasing, contracting, and advanced supply chain management concepts.
Prioritizes, organizes, and completes work independently, meeting deadlines.
Maintains flexibility, adaptability, and positive balance in a climate of constant change.
Communicates effectively in oral and written form with a diverse population.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential Responsibilities and Competencies:
Supervise daily sterile processing operations, including decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of instruments and medical equipment.
Oversee high-level disinfection processes to ensure compliance with infection control standards, manufacturer instructions, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with hiring process of new employees.
Manage staff scheduling, training, development, and performance evaluations to promote professional growth and high-quality service delivery.
Coach employees, discussing performance improvements and supporting professional growth.
Implement and maintain sterile processing policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure efficiency and regulatory compliance.
Conduct regular audits of sterile processing activities to assess compliance and identify deficiencies; assist with disciplinary action and corrective action plans.
Maintain accurate records of sterilization cycles, biological indicators, equipment maintenance, and instrument inventories.
Collaborate with surgical services, nursing units, and other departments to ensure timely availability and proper functioning of instruments and equipment.
Monitor and manage inventory of instruments, equipment, and supplies to support clinical operations and minimize delays.
Serve as a technical resource for staff, providing guidance on sterile processing standards, best practices, and problem resolution.
Provide leadership, mentorship, and coaching for staff, including training and performance reviews.?
Schedule and assign tasks to maintain smooth department workflow, including decontamination, cleaning, assembly, packaging, and high-level disinfection procedures.?
Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, as well as accreditation and infection control standards (e.g., AAMI, AORN, CDC, Joint Commission).
