Job Summary

Mechanics are key members of FRC's operations team, working with the Shop Manager to ensure all company equipment and vehicles are maintained and repaired as needed. This position requires knowledge of heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, and diesel engines. Mechanics typically perform repairs and maintenance on-site at the FRC shop but must also be able to travel within the United States, potentially with overnight stays, to troubleshoot and perform equipment repairs in the field. The successful Mechanic will also ensure an understanding and adherence to all safety needs/regulations, will be a clear communicator, and willing to work as part of a team.

Job Duties

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

· Attend shop meetings, safety meetings, and other company meetings as scheduled

· Perform preventative maintenance and troubleshoot problems on equipment and vehicles at the FRC shop

o Travel to FRC jobsites and other field locations to troubleshoot/repair, when necessary

· Operate machinery such as welders and torches (fabricating skills helpful)

· Focus on safety

o Follow safety regulations/protocols in the shop and in the field

o Assist in ensuring that safe working conditions exist at all times

o Report unsafe conditions to supervisor and follow any other reporting protocols

· Operate tools, equipment, and company vehicles in conformity with manufacturer requirements, FRC policies, safety requirements, and any site-specific regulations

· Complete and submit service logs, accounting, payroll, and other administrative forms

Work Conditions

· The primary work location will be the FRC equipment shop in Columbus, OH with both indoor and outdoor work/storage locations

· Travel to outdoor field locations in all types of weather will be required, as repairs are needed

o Personal truck and tools that can be used for field work are preferred, but not required

o Field work may be performed in these locations:

§ On or along railroad tracks that may be active during work times

§ On a railroad track bridge, elevated walkway, or other areas of bridge structure

§ Near or in coal/mineral mine site locations

§ Wide geographical area requiring travel and overnight stays

· Work may expose Mechanics to dust, railroad train traffic, highway traffic, loud noises, slippery or uneven footing

o Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be used as required, which may include hard hat, safety glasses with side-shields, metatarsal guard safety work boots, etc.

§ FRC will provide hard hats and safety glasses at no charge; if metatarsal boots are required, they may be purchased through the company

· Physical requirements include:

o Frequent standing, bending, lifting, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and similar movements

o Continuous sitting during training, when completing paperwork, traveling to/from jobsites, and operating equipment

· Typical work schedule for a Mechanic is Monday-Friday, 8-10 hours per day, with opportunity for some weekend and emergency work as needed

Required Qualifications

· 18 years of age or older

· Able to pass federal drug and alcohol testing (pre-hire, random, post-accident, for cause, client contractual, etc.)

· Knowledge of heavy equipment, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, A/C systems, gasoline and diesel engines

· Function well in a team atmosphere

o Willing to take instruction and learn from/share knowledge with others

o Can communicate clearly and effectively with other team members, FRC management and administration, customers, subcontractors, vendors

o Assist all coworkers in performance of duties as needed

· Comprehend and follow written and verbal training materials, regulation information, and instructions

· Abide by all safety regulations of FRC, customers, OSHA, MSHA, and FRA

o Attend all trainings/classes as scheduled by FRC and pass required exams, including but not limited to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Safe Worker Training

· Able to perform work duties in conditions as described above
