Crisis Response and De-escalation

CMS Standards: The use of restraint or seclusion interventions must never act as a barrier to the provision of safe and appropriate care, treatment, or other interventions to meet the needs of the patient. CMS does not consider the use of weapons in the application of restraint as a safe or appropriate healthcare intervention. BHU Security staff who are Law Enforcement Officers may not carry weapons within the BHU. "Weapons" include, but are not limited to: pepper spray, mace, nightsticks, Tasers, cattle prods, stun guns, and firearms. The use of weapons is not considered a healthcare intervention and, if used, the incident will be handled as a law enforcement matter. Offenders should be turned over to local authorities.

Participate in Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance initiatives as directed.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School Diploma/GED is required. At least 1 year of relevant experience required. Current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License required. Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) to be obtained within 6 months of hire. Physical Security Professional (PSP), or Certified Protection Officer (CPO) certification preferred. Previous medical or hospital experience preferred.
