The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Information Systems Division (ISD) is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Quality Assurance Engineer (IT Specialist II) to join our team. Under the general direction of the Product Quality Group Manager (IT Manager I), this role performs complex quality assurance tasks and provides lead oversight to lower-level staff.

This position plays a key role in the Enterprise Modernization Project, supporting critical Driver License functions and shaping the future of DMV services for millions of Californians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze business requirements and use cases
  • Create and maintain test cases across SDLC testing disciplines
  • Participate in Joint Application Development (JAD) sessions
  • Coordinate Integration, System, Performance, and Security testing for applications and APIs
  • Document test results and ensure full traceability
  • Define, execute, and document test strategies for Modernization Project deliverables
  • Analyze software environments and code segments to ensure functionality
  • Develop user training and create end-user documentation

Desirable Qualifications

  • 2+ years of Quality Assurance or Testing experience on large, complex projects
  • Training and experience with Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies
  • Bachelor's degree in IT, MIS, or Computer Science
  • Foundational IT experience across major technology domains
  • Experience in test management, documentation, software analysis, error identification, and training coordination
  • Expertise in SDLC, Agile, and DevOps
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work independently in remote and in-person environments
  • Experience managing vendor deliverables in enterprise-wide projects
  • Effective facilitation and presentation skills, including presenting to executives
  • Knowledge of project management principles: charters, schedules, risks, and issues
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams
  • Understanding of public administration and state-level IT policies
  • Experience with process improvement and business process reengineering
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority initiatives
