POSITION: PROJECT ENGINEER

PRIMARY LOCATION: Chicago, IL

The Project Engineer is responsible for preparing and completing bid documents and cost estimates for construction projects. In this role the Project Engineer will manage multiple tasks, work well under time constraints, and adapt to changing priorities with a positive attitude. The Project Engineer is self-motivated, proactive, and an effective team player able to interact professionally with all levels of employees, management, vendors, customers, and others.

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Prepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work and enter computer estimating system, review computer printout for accuracy and completeness.
  • Request quotes from suppliers for equipment and materials.
  • Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors and solicit quotes.
  • Review quotes for completeness with plans and specifications.
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary in preparing the bid packages including sub-contract work, equipment rental, tools, and supplies.
  • Prior to the issuing of the formal bid package, provide to the Division Manager a detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing for the estimated bid package.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of all client-required documents.
  • Responsible to assist with the creation and flow of any change orders during the life of the project.
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates.
  • Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures.
  • Other duties as assigned by Division Manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, or Electrical Engineering preferred.

Experience in estimating, or in closing construction estimates.

Experience in Accubid software (or other estimating software).

Proficient in Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio, and PowerPoint).

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or engineer design drawings.

Ability to perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.

Excellent writing, organization, and communication skills.

Positive attitude and ability to navigate in a fast pace environment.
