Contractor Description
Contractor Title: GEMS Program Facilitator
Position Pay: $20.00 an hour, up to 10 hours a week.
Agency Summary: The ARK of St. Sabina is a community center dedicated to enhancing the talents, lives, and spirits of community youth through education, mentoring, and linkages to resources. The ARK offers a vast array of opportunities and programs for youth and young adults ages 6-24. The ARK serves between youth on a daily basis in West Englewood, Auburn-Gresham and Englewood communities at no cost to them and their families.
GEMS Program Summary: G.E.M.S., which stands for the spirit of Giving, Empowering, Mentoring, and Self Identity, began enriching the lives of 14 girls between the ages of 12 and 18 in January 2018. The G.E.M.S. model is designed to educate, inspire, and reshape the behaviors of teenage girls. Through bi-weekly group meetings, field trips, and weekly one-on-one mentoring, the G.E.M.S. team works diligently to ensure that each girl in the program gains a new understanding of her value and gets the support and resources she needs to pursue her dreams.
Position Summary: The GEMS Program Facilitator/Program Assistant will serve as the primary facilitator for GEMS meetings, which are scheduled on Monday and Wednesday afternoons/evenings and will assist in coordinating GEMS program activities. The Program Facilitator will also offer training and support to the mentors.
Primary Scope of Services:
· Serve as primary facilitator for all GEMS Mentoring Sessions
· Attend and assist with coordination of activities and outings for GEMS program.
· Support GEMS Mentors by leading trainings or bringing in trainers for the monthly mentor circle (trainings), as well as connecting mentors to resources when needed.
· Assist Program Coordinator in coordination of mentor/mentee 1 on 1 meetings, and providing mentors with updates.
· Assist Program Coordinator with ensuring the mentors are meeting the expectations of the program, and mentor and mentee interaction remains consistent.
· Help mentor and mentees resolve any issues that might arise throughout the course of the program.
· Assistant Program Coordinator in activities and event planning for after school ARK programs.
Experience/Education:
· Contractor must have a bachelor's degree (preferably in social work or related field) or must at least have 5+ years of experience working in a related field.
· Contractor must have previous formal training working with mentoring program.
· Contractor must be able to effectively train mentors, to assist them in addressing issues they are confronted with while working with the mentees in the program.
· Contractor must have a prior history of working with adolescent girls from low-income communities.
· Contractor must have excellent communication skills, and strong facilitation skills.
· Contractor must be available during the hours in which the program operates, which are Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:30pm-6:30pm, plus must be available occasionally on weekends or other evenings for special events and field trips.
