Description Of Job
About the Work Unit
This work unit develops plans, specifications and estimates for maintenance, reconstruction and rehabilitation projects for the transportation system within CDOT Region 1. Also performs field engineering and monitors, oversee and supervise all aspects of construction contracts along with quality assurance programs within Region 1.
About The Position
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is filling an Engineering Construction Inspector in our South Program office. This position will support project engineers by reviewing various field materials tests and inspecting and documenting contractor work to ensure projects are constructed safely and in compliance with project plans and specifications. This position will produce and review documentation and quantities for monthly progress payments and assist in plan review.
Your duties and responsibilities
will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Certify that materials incorporated during construction are in conformance with the contract by supervising and reviewing field and laboratory tests; review quantity and quality of the contractor's materials.
- Certify that contractor's work is in conformance with construction plans and specifications; inspect contractor's work procedures by being on site and being familiar with plans and specifications.
- Check inspection reports for description of contractor's work, calculations, and accuracy.
- Request/analyze field modifications, which often impact budgets, when plans & field conditions differ.
- Oversee traffic control on construction projects to ensure compliance with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and traffic control plans; review submitted traffic control plans; request modification to traffic control operations and plans as necessary.
