Job Summary

The Medical Coder at Level 3 will be responsible for leading the ICD coding program, analyzing complex ICD reports, and ensuring accurate code assignments. This senior-level role involves providing expert guidance, troubleshooting complex coding issues, and collaborating with other departments to maintain the accuracy and compliance of coding procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the analysis and monitoring of ICD reports to ensure proper coding assignments.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies and internal teams to resolve complex coding discrepancies.
  • Provide expert guidance on ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Oversee the identification and implementation of regulatory and policy requirements.
  • Draft, edit, and implement administrative policies, procedures, and directives related to coding.
  • Apply advanced statistical analysis to identify trends and discrepancies in coding data.
  • Define and resolve complex coding problems and discrepancies.
  • Gather and classify complex coding data from multiple sources, ensuring its accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain and update comprehensive coding records and databases.
  • Prepare and present detailed reports on coding activities and issues.
  • Communicate effectively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Handle sensitive and complex coding inquiries with professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Mentor and train junior coders, providing guidance and support on coding best practices.

Qualifications

Required

  • Expert knowledge of ICD diagnostic codes, human anatomy, physiology, and coding theory.
  • Advanced proficiency in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
  • Thorough understanding of healthcare laws, regulations, and coding standards.
  • Expertise in claims processing data management and healthcare delivery systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and advanced coding software.
  • Strong leadership, project management, and data analysis skills.

Education

Required

  • RHIA or RHIT degree and/or CCS/CCS-P/CPC certification
