Job description:

North Central Family Medical Center (NCFMC) is a non-profit Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) committed to delivering affordable, accessible healthcare and pharmacy services to individuals and families across all ages. We proudly serve the Rock Hill, SC, Chester, SC and surrounding communities.

The Phlebotomist / Patient Care Technician plays a key role in supporting patient care by performing routine medical laboratory tests used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This position is also responsible for maintaining laboratory operations, ensuring accurate documentation, and upholding safety and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, and handle blood and biological specimens following established procedures

  • Instruct patients on proper specimen collection when necessary

  • Accurately document and review lab results in the EMR system

  • Manage phone calls regarding lab results as directed by providers

  • Order, stock, and monitor all laboratory supplies, ensuring proper use and expiration tracking

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment, including refrigerators

  • Verify charts to ensure lab procedures and related information are documented and reviewed by physicians

  • Conduct required CLIA tests and run quality controls for lab equipment

  • Monitor results from CLIA testing and third party laboratory, distributing them to providers as needed

  • Assist clinical staffing with rooming patients and other tasks

Follow all safety, environmental, and infection control procedures

  • Provide cross-coverage during staff shortages, which may include supporting other departments or traveling to additional sites

Education / Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Graduate of an approved school or training program for certified medical office assistants, laboratory technicians, or phlebotomists with comprehensive phlebotomy training

Licenses / Certifications:

  • CPR certification required

  • Phlebotomy certification required

Skills:

  • Familiarity with laboratory environment and testing procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Ability to promote and maintain a culture of safety

  • Knowledge of sterilization and infection control practices

  • Proficiency with EMR systems and documentation

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities

  • Prior experience in an ambulatory healthcare setting or laboratory strongly preferred

  • One year of related experience or training preferred
