We're seeking a highly motivated Accountant to join our team and play a key role in managing financial operations, reporting, and compliance efforts. This position is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, collaborative, and experienced in nonprofit accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compile and analyze financial data to prepare entries for general ledger accounts and document business transactions.
- Manage the month-end close process, including financial reporting and ad hoc reports for senior leadership.
- Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare and post journal entries, including labor and payroll postings.
- Collaborate with departments to develop operating budgets and provide monthly updates comparing actuals to budget.
- Oversee grant accounting activities: budgeting, billing, financial reporting, and monitoring of spending and revenue.
- Manage the accounting of fixed assets including budgeting, tagging, tracking, disposals, and reporting.
- Prepare quarterly financial statements in accordance with not-for-profit GAAP and internal policies.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly dashboards for the Internal Committee.
- Maintain and update fixed asset listings; coordinate with department heads for additions and deletions.
- File property tax exemption renewals and prepare property tax returns.
- Prepare the annual SEFA report and coordinate with external auditors for A-133 audit compliance.
- Manage professional and liability insurance policies in coordination with external brokers.
- Coordinate insurance claims and develop RFPs for major service contracts.
- Respond to internal and external requests for financial information.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
- Experience in nonprofit accounting strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting practices.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Experience preparing financial statements and working with auditors.
- Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Physical Demands:
This position works in a typical office setting. It may require extended periods of sitting, standing, or computer use. Routine tasks may involve talking, listening, visual concentration, and occasional lifting (not typically exceeding 50 pounds). Reasonable accommodations will be made as needed.
Additional Requirements:
- Must successfully pass a background investigation.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $58,000.00 per year
