This position is for a Remote-Control Software Engineer to support the Surface Handling Autonomy and Remote-Control group. The individual hired for this position will work as part of an engineering team to design, develop, integrate, and test robust, scalable features on embedded electronic
control systems and vision system
for use in remote control machine applications.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop
    Remote Control features for vision system
    and real-time control systems.
  • Generate requirements for
    vision system features.
  • Collaborate with Vision component hardware and software teams to improve vision system design.
  • Issue resolution through triage and troubleshooting.
  • Test plan development and software validation.
  • Coordination with RC System engineers, global team of machine, systems, software, and validation teams
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse work group.

Education & Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in an accredited Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent technical field.
  • 4+ years of relevant engineering development work experience in embedded software development, systems design, or product validation.
  • 4-5 years of e
    mbedded C/C++
    experience.
  • 4+ years of embedded system or vision system development experience in
    Linux & RTOS.

Technical Skills Required:

  • Strong understanding of i
    mage processing, camera configuration, and firmware development
  • Real world, real-time embedded device driver experience is a key requirement.
  • Proficiency in Git version management is required, Clearcase experience is preferred.
  • Significant experience with Jenkins build platforms required.
  • Experience troubleshooting/debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes
  • Experience designing embedded electronics controls, display, or telematics software, including development of device drivers, SPI/I2C peripheral interfacing, hardware diagnostics, operating system configurations, non-volatile memory interfacing, board initialization, and other chip-level interfacing.
  • Experience with RTOS, control software design patterns and anti-patterns, ANSI C, Python, and other programming languages.
  • Experience with software development processes such as Agile.

(Desired)

  • Experience in the areas of robotics, remote control, or autonomy.
  • Experience with datalinks (CAN, Ethernet, etc.) and associated tools (CANape, Wireshark, etc.).
  • Experience with software development tools such as git, debuggers, and compilers.
  • Extensive experience with
    Linux-based
    software development.
  • Experience with modeling tools such as Matlab/Simulink in an embedded software environment.
  • Experience with
    camera configurations
    and firmware development.
  • Experience with User Interface software development in Qt framework.
  • Experience with FMEA processes and a basic knowledge of electronic system failure modes.
  • Experience developing with embedded real-time software or systems for mobile, earthmoving, agricultural, industrial, or off-highway applications.

Soft Skills Required:

  • Great teamwork, communication, analysis, and troubleshooting skills are required.
  • The individual should be a self-starter, highly motivated, able to learn at an accelerated pace, and willing to put in the time to get the job done.
