Study Abroad Advisors are crucial members of the Education Abroad team. Their primary role is to guide students from various backgrounds through the study abroad process for a variety of program models and locations. Advisors also collaborate to maintain good relationships with on and offcampus partners and help promote study abroad across campus.

Essential Duties:

  • Support students in identifying and selecting programs based on curricular fit, cocurricular opportunities, program type, costs, and student goals, and needs.
  • Assists students and provides information.
  • Serve as university representative and contact for institutional partners associated with a portfolio of programs.
    Develop and implement high quality predeparture and re- entry programming.
  • Advise students on external scholarships and assist with required application materials.
    Facilitate both oneonone and group- based advising sessions.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with campus stakeholders to promote study abroad and support participating students.
  • Participate in outreach events, including fairs, information sessions, and campus presentations.
  • Monitor study abroad applications and manage applications following internal procedures.
  • May support students applying for visas and submitting required materials to partner institutions/organizations.
  • Support students in obtaining transcripts and updating academic records.
  • Collaborate with university units to ensure timely and accurate processing of academic records, financial aid, billing, and other functions.
  • Assist with evaluation and development of ongoing and new programs.
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: High School Diploma or GED and some College AND:

  • 18 months experience in office supervision/management or student services.

Skills:

  • Ability to facilitate meetings and engage in public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Competency in creating, organizing, and maintaining data.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm and creativity.

Certifications: None

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Standard office environment.
  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions.
  • Hear including receiving detailed information orally.

Department Preferences:

  • At least one significant international or intercultural experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Experience working with college students.

  • 3 student employees.
