Material Handler

Position Summary

The Material Handler & Powder Coat Assistant has a critical hands-on role responsible for optimizing the flow of materials within the shop and ensuring the quality and efficiency of the finished powder coating process. This role directly supports the production team by managing inventory staging, transporting materials, and performing preparation/finishing duties in the coating area.

Key Responsibilities

1. Material Handling & Logistics Support

• Inventory Management: Stage and organizing raw materials and fabricated components (steel, fasteners, electrical boxes) required for daily production runs, ensuring all materials are present before a job starts.
• Internal Transport: Safely operate a forklift and pallet jacks to load, unload, and transport materials and finished goods between the receiving dock, storage areas, welding bays, and the powder coating booth.
• Shipping Preparation: Assist the packaging team by staging finished elevator components for final packaging, ensuring correct parts are pulled and ready for shipment.

2. Powder Coat Assistance & Quality

• Part Preparation: Prepare components for the powder coating process. This involves cleaning, masking (covering threads/openings), and hanging parts on racks for conveyor transport.
• Booth Support: Assist the Powder Coating Technician inside the booth area. Ensure parts are properly grounded and move smoothly through the curing process.
• Finishing & Inspection: Assist with the removal and cooling of finished components. Inspect coated parts for imperfections (e.g., drips, bare spots, uneven coverage) and report findings immediately to the Shop Lead.
• Genral Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, dust-free, and organized powder coating booth and preparation area to minimize contamination and ensure compliance with safety standards.

Qualifications

• Experience: 1+ years of experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, or industrial shop environment. Experience handling materials and organizing production flow is a strong plus.
• Certifications: Forklift certification is required (or the proven ability to be certified immediately upon hire).
• Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift and move up to 50 lbs unassisted and stand for extended periods. Must be able to work in varying shop conditions (e.g., heat from the coating oven, exposure to dust/fumes with proper PPE).
• Skills:
• Demonstrated ability to follow detailed instructions and checklists accurately.
• Familiarity with basic inventory concepts and shop organization.
• Commitment to health and safety standards

Pay: $ $19.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
