HDR is currently seeking a Structural Intern to join our Building Engineering Services (BES) Business Group in our Charlotte, NC office. The Structural Intern will serve as an integral part of our team with an opportunity to work with talented staff, and to be a part of one of the fastest growing and most critical segments of HDR.

Responsibilities:

  • This person will be responsible for the design of facilities related structures in support of a variety of markets including Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Health, Data Centers, and Federal. T
  • hey will be expected to support, coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration.
  • They will be responsible for supporting the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction.
  • Experience in structural design and construction is a plus.
  • This individual should be self-motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound structural designs.

This position will be on-site, with an expected commitment of up to 40 hours per week during Spring and Summer 2026.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefer 2 years completed toward degree with 3.0+ GPA
  • Currently enrolled in bachelor's or master's degree program with a focus in structural engineering
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to field of structural analysis/design
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Revit
  • Preference will be given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
    An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
