eBays Homepage engineering team is looking for an outstanding Backend Engineer to help reshape the homepage. Youll work with a world?class team of engineers, designers, product managers, and analysts to build great products that make a difference on one of the worlds most trafficked websites. Our tech stack includes rapidly evolving GenAI models, a machine?learning recommendation framework, JS frontend app, and Java/JavaScript?based back?end services. What You Will Accomplish Build and maintain eBays homepage backend engineering, translating requirements to software design and creating clean, efficient, extensible, and maintainable code. Own major functional areas, drive key architectural decisions, and ensure performance, reliability, and accessibility. Influence technical direction across domain teams and guide others toward sound architectural choices. Design and build scalable, distributed, highly available systems, ensuring a high?performant, responsive, and accessible website. Provide technical guidance and code review for the team, contribute and review ADRs, coach and mentor team members. Lead engineering support, release, and triage on?call responsibilities on the 24/7 site. Improve engineering velocity through CI/CD enhancements, better tooling, and process improvements. Collaborate with cross?functional partners to deliver high?impact solutions. Identify system gaps, propose solutions, and influence the engineering roadmap. Foster a culture of learning, growth, and knowledge sharing across teams.
What You Will Bring
8+ years of experience in backend engineering, with proficiency in multiple programming languages (Java and Node.js preferred). Deep mastery of one or two specific languages/frameworks. Experience proposing and influencing technical strategy & roadmap, balancing short and long?term wins. Experience designing and building scalable, distributed, and highly available systems, ensuring high?performant, responsive, and accessible web services. Experience taking a lead role delivering complex software systems. Pluses: GraphQL, TypeScript. Familiarity with shift?left approach is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
Base pay range: $132,000 $222,100. Base pay may vary based on location, skills, and experience. Total compensation may include target bonus and restricted stock units, as applicable, along with medical, financial, and other benefits such as 401(k), PTO, and parental leave.
