Position Summary

The Shipping and Crate Building Associate is responsible for the safe preparation, packaging, and shipment of aerospace components and assemblies. This includes the design and construction of custom wooden crates, proper part marking, labeling, documentation, and ensuring all shipments meet customer, regulatory, and export compliance requirements. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on skills, attention to detail, and takes pride in ensuring that high-value aerospace parts are shipped securely and on time.

Key Responsibilities

Crate Building & Packaging

• Design and construct custom shipping crates, skids, and containers to safely transport aerospace components.
• Select and prepare appropriate packaging materials (foam, wraps, fasteners, supports) to prevent damage during transit.
• Ensure all packaging complies with internal quality standards, customer specifications, and export requirements (e.g., ISPM-15 for wood packaging).
• Operate woodworking and hand tools safely and efficiently.

Shipping Operations

• Prepare and package components for domestic and international shipments.
• Generate and affix correct shipping labels, part markings, and documentation.
• Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy and condition.
• Maintain a clean and organized shipping area.

Part Identification & Handling

• Perform part marking and labeling in accordance with customer and aerospace industry requirements.
• Wrap, bag, and protect parts using approved methods to prevent corrosion and contamination.
• Verify part numbers, quantities, and associated documentation before shipment.

General Duties

• Assist with inventory control and material movement between departments.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives within the shipping and logistics area.
• Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or operations manager.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of experience in shipping, crate building, or packaging (aerospace or manufacturing environment preferred).
• Experience operating woodworking tools and equipment.
• Familiarity with shipping software, logistics documentation, and labeling systems is an asset.

Skills & Attributes

• Strong mechanical and woodworking aptitude.
• Excellent attention to detail and quality standards.
• Ability to read and interpret shipping instructions.
• Team-oriented with good communication skills.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and performing manual tasks.
• Forklift certification is an asset.

Work Environment

• Shop floor and shipping area environment with moderate noise levels.
• Requires standing, lifting, and manual handling of parts and materials.
• Occasional overtime may be required to meet shipping deadlines.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
