Position Overview 

Apex Skin is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Coding Specialist (CS) to join our growing Revenue Cycle team. The Coding Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate claim submissions for all Apex Skin providers. This position is responsible for reviewing (scrubbing) provider-entered charges prior to claim submission, ensuring coding accuracy, and maintaining compliance with all Federal, State, and payer-specific coding laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of coding, an eye for detail, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment to support Apex's financial, operational, and compliance goals. 

Schedule 

  • Full-time, Monday through Friday (40 hours per week)
  • Work arrangement: Remote work environment

Essential Functions 

  • Review, scrub, and post pending charges and claims in the Practice Management system by assigned offices prior to claim submission.
  • Maintain a one-day posting lag for most charges, ensuring timely and accurate claim submission.
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure all charges are posted correctly prior to month-end.
  • Send charge-related tasks and inquiries to providers regarding posting questions or discrepancies.
  • Report recurring errors on the charge error spreadsheet for inclusion in weekly provider reporting.
  • Work collaboratively with peers to balance daily workload and support team efficiency.
  • Review and address coding-related tasks in the ModMed inbox for provider change requests.
  • Respond to and resolve billing-related inquiries from the billing questions inbox.
  • Monitor and communicate payer policy changes to the Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) team and peers.
  • Participate in coding accuracy and auditing initiatives to support compliance and process improvement.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ApexSkin's Vision and Values in all daily activities.

Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1–3 years of progressive medical billing or coding experience, preferably in dermatology.
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Dermatology Coder (CDC or CPC-D) required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Practice Management systems; excellent computer and data entry skills.
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and Federal, State, and payer-specific coding regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in charge posting and coding.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with providers and team members.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accuracy under tight deadlines.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to compliance, confidentiality, and professionalism.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and adaptable to process changes and updates.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use for data entry, coding review, and electronic communication.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and navigating multiple software systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via phone, email, and virtual platforms with providers and team members.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to read electronic medical records, coding guidelines, and payer documentation.
  • Requires consistent attention to detail and ability to maintain focus in a virtual setting.
  • Must adhere to HIPAA and Apex Skin privacy standards while working remotely.
