Swimming Specialist - Camp Fireweed

Gear up for outdoor adventures at our day camp located in Anchorage on the campus of Alaska Pacific University. We take full advantage of this natural setting, making every day another opportunity for campers to explore the forest, practice target sports, or launch a canoe from the waterfront. In addition to a huge catalog of activities and games, we structure each session to create a classic, outdoor summer camp experience.

Position Description: 

A Camp Fireweed Swimming Specialist adheres to Camp Fire Alaska's (CFAK) promise to provide youth with the opportunity to find their spark, lift their voice, and discover who they are through positive and responsible youth/adult interactions within the day camp environment. The Swimming Specialist will be responsible for providing instruction and supervision to staff and campers during swimming activities, as well developing and executing progressive, inclusive, and fun pool programming.

In this position you'll gain valuable experience providing a high-quality camp experience for participants and parents within the CFA mission and goals. You'll have an opportunity to lead and participate in all camp activities along with planning and implementing age appropriate activities consistent with campers' needs/abilities that promote, encourage, and demonstrate caring, striving and thriving. Pay: Starting at $19.89/hour, with higher rates available based on experience.

• Bonus for completing the full season

Work Dates: April 20 - August 14, 2026 (beginning with start-up training)

Work Schedule: 8 hours a day, Monday - Friday

Qualifications:

• Water Safety Instructor/Swim Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized provider(s) preferred .
• Prior experience working with youth
  
• Prior experience in leading/facilitating swim lesson/activities.
• Current Lifeguard Certification (By Start of Position).
• Eighteen (18) years of age required to maintain compliance with regulatory and accrediting entities.
