JeffCare is a Federally Qualified Health Center with two sites in East Jefferson and West Jefferson and a program of Jefferson Parish Human Services Authority. This position requires no on-call or weekend work. It is located in the greater New Orleans metropolitan area in Marrero, LA.

Responsibilities

  • Shows patients to rooms, takes vital signs, and facilitates the work flow of the physician schedule
  • Prepares individuals for physician/APRN visits, exams, and procedures
  • Collects and concurrently inputs data into the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Utilizes the EHR to retrieve patient's medical records, x-ray films, scans, lab work, etc. in preparation for the patient's visit
  • Assists in medical procedures as assigned
  • Administers medications and injectable medications/immunizations as assigned
  • Completes any needed orders/referrals/follow-up for laboratory work, care coordination, and specialty care services after visit
  • Performs general clerical duties in support of patient care, including answering phones, relaying messages, placing follow-up calls to patients, uploading, and faxing

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
  • Completion of training from an accredited Medical Assistant training program
  • Two years of experience in a patient care setting
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Calm, professional attitude in stressful situations and interactions
  • High level of ethics in maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Ability to multitask (handle multiple tasks simultaneously)
  • Creative problem-solver
  • Strong memory and concentration skills
  • Proven ability to make good judgments and exercise analytic skills
  • Initiative

  • Excellent listening skills
  • Alert and attentive
  • Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, and other staff in verbal and written form.
  • One year of experience in documenting information in an electronic health record and verifying insurance benefits
  • Experience working in primary care and behavioral health provider's office is a plus
  • High ethical standards and personal integrity
  • Ability to provide care in a culturally competent way and consistently treat all with dignity and respect
